Introduction

The Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) pathway is tailored for international medical graduates who have successfully cleared the AMC Computer Adaptive Test Multiple Choice Question (CAT MCQ) exam, hold limited registration as medical practitioners, and have been placed in hospital or general practice roles.

The Standard Pathway WBA offers an alternative assessment approach to the clinical examination segment of the standard pathway. Through the WBA program, your clinical skills and essential professional attributes are evaluated to ensure you can practice safely in the Australian healthcare system and cultural context.

Upon successful completion, candidates receive the AMC Certificate, enabling them to seek registration.

Eligibility

To qualify for the WBA, you must:

1. Have successfully completed the AMC CAT MCQ examination.

2. Have obtained limited registration from the Medical Board of Australia, allowing employment in an approved WBA clinical role.

3. Occupy a designated position in a hospital or general practice with a contract covering the entire program duration.

How you can apply for a WBA position

To apply for a position in the WBA program, you should reach out to the AMC-accredited WBA provider, which could be either a hospital or a health service, expressing your interest. Once the provider accepts you, they will nominate you through the AMC WBA portal. The AMC WBA team will then verify your eligibility by checking the portal for nominations.

If you decide to accept a place in the WBA program, you’ll need to withdraw from the clinical exam. The AMC system will automatically send you an email to inform you about your eligibility and offer you a WBA placement if you qualify. You’ll then receive an email containing the placement offer for the WBA program along with a link to make the payment.
